6 Steps to Becoming a Homeowner

Step 1: Saving Now

It is essential that you save now for inspections, appraisals, down payment, and closing costs. Every dollar saved now will contribute to the long-term equity that home ownership offers. There are many 100 % financing programs available to qualified individuals; however buyers will need an EMD (Earnest Money Deposit), Appraisal fees as required by the lender and inspection cost.

Step 2: Review Finances

The next step toward home buying process is assessing and understanding one’s financial status. So get a credit report and check for errors to prevent headaches down the road. It’s also important to make a details budget before beginning the search. Major changes that will affect income over the next year such as new additions to the family, or potential raises at work should be factored in as well. Cash flow is an important factor. Make certain you have enough income to cover monthly mortgage payments, taxes, home maintenance and other essentials including your social life.

Step 3: Attend Free Local Workshops

The Patrick Team believes education is the key to a successful transaction.  Professionally we are dedicated to sharing the best practices and models with our future buyers.  These classes are held on the third Saturday of each month. Register for our FREE workshop today.

Step 4: Get Pre-Approved for a Mortgage

Getting pre-approved for a mortgage BEFORE starting the buying process allows you to make informed decisions.  A lender will pre-approve a borrower based on income, debt and credit scores. By getting this early green light, others involved in the process will know the buyer is serious about home ownership AND is well qualified. This pre-approval is also the starting point to how much home you can afford. Learn more at our Mortgage Center.
